Academic Overview

The department started to initiate Biotechnology education as programme to generate trained manpower to meet the industry's demand. The department has initiated efforts to establish advanced research laboratories in all the thrust area. Apart from fundamental research, the department aims to meet the targeted demands to cater the requirements of Biotechnology based industries.The major thrust of the department includes Plant Biotechnology, Computational Biology, Animal biotechnology, Nano biotechnology, Cancer biology. Now the Department is provided with all basic and essential laboratory facilities for carrying out doctoral research programmes in modern areas of Biotechnology.

The department as a part of its extension activities does Microbial quality analysis of drinking water and food materials for the needy persons and groups and also conduct short term training in microbial analysis as well as in other related biotechnological and biochemical techniques. The department also undertake project training of students - PG, UG and PhD students. The College is functioning as platform for the research and academic interaction of researchers and students of Microbiology. We impart training on various fields of Microbiology to the needy person according to their research and academic needs.

The Department of Genetics has established and Interdisciplinary institute for Genomics and Gene Technology studies, an initiative of the Guru Nanak Institute of Pharmaceutical Science & Technology (Life Science). The College is functioning as platform for the research and academic interaction of researchers and students of Genetics. We impart training on various fields of modern Genetics to the students according to their research and academic needs of industries.

The departments offer Lab based real time project in multidisciplinary areas of Biotechnology to both undergraduate & Post graduate students of Life Sciences.

In addition, the Department is supported by the individual research projects sponsored by DST, WB; UGC and DBT.
